Service of Remembrance
This Christmas season Emory Methodist Church is providing a unique opportunity for people to remember the lives of those they have lost. This special service will include music and a message. The event will conclude with a time of remembrance when the names of our loved ones will be read and candles lit in their memory. All are welcome to attend.
Comfort one another. 1 Thessalonians 4:18
You Are Not Alone
The Christmas season can be bittersweet when someone we love is no longer with us. The joy and celebration around us can make the empty chair at the table feel even more pronounced. If you’re facing the holidays with grief in your heart, we want you to know: you are not alone, and there is a place for you here.
We warmly invite you to join us for a Service of Remembrance – a gentle, compassionate gathering where we can acknowledge our losses, honor the memories of those we’ve loved, and find comfort together in God’s presence.
Our Heart For THis Gathering
The holidays often amplify our sense of loss. Memories of past Christmases, family traditions, and celebrations can bring both comfort and pain. This service creates space to:
- Acknowledge that grief and joy can coexist
- Remember loved ones who have passed away
- Find strength in community and shared experience
- Rest in the hope that God is close to the brokenhearted
- Carry both our sorrow and the season’s hope together
Whether your loss is recent or many years past, whether you’re struggling deeply or simply missing someone special, you are welcome here.
Who Should Attend?
This service is for anyone who:
- Has lost a loved one and finds the holidays difficult
- Wants to honor someone’s memory during the Christmas season
- Needs a quiet, supportive space amid the busyness of the holidays
- Seeks comfort and hope while navigating grief
- Simply needs to know they’re not alone
You don’t need to be a church member. You don’t need to have all the answers about faith. You just need to come as you are.
